Teji’s Indian Restaurant in Round Rock, Texas Fails Health Inspection Due to Imminent Health Hazards

Exposed: Teji’s Indian Restaurant Shut Down Due to Lack of Refrigeration and Roach Infestation

On December 13, 2022, Teji’s Indian Restaurant located in Round Rock, Texas, failed their health inspection, which was conducted as a result of a complaint. The inspection revealed several critical violations, including a lack of refrigeration throughout the entire facility, which includes both the restaurant and grocery store side. TCS food was being held above 41°F in walk-in coolers, reach-in coolers, and prep coolers, among other areas. The establishment was also found to have significant evidence of a roach infestation, including dead roaches found behind equipment, under shelving, in toilet rooms, and on shelving.

The health inspector deemed the lack of refrigeration and the roach infestation as imminent health hazards, and the establishment’s food permit was immediately suspended. A yellow CLOSED sign was placed on the door, and the establishment may not engage in food preparation until the health hazards are controlled, and the food permit is reinstated. The establishment must meet two conditions before it can be reopened. Firstly, it must undergo a thorough cleaning, including the total elimination of any evidence of a roach infestation, and ensure that no food appears to be contaminated or not in good condition. Secondly, it must repair all refrigeration units to adequately hold TCS food at or below 41°F.

If the establishment fails to meet both conditions satisfactorily, it will remain closed until the conditions are met. In the case of an inspection, prior to the food permit being reinstated, a $75 reinspection fee will apply. At the time of reinstatement, a $150 reinstatement fee will also apply. The establishment’s priority is to control the imminent health hazard conditions listed above, and after this is accomplished, a full compliance inspection will occur. The red UNSATISFACTORY tag will remain on the establishment’s door until the inspection is passed.

It is important to note that removal, obstruction, or alteration of any WCCHD signage is not permitted and may result in further fees. Employees may not engage in food preparation of any kind until the food permit is reinstated, and the establishment has passed the full compliance inspection.

Eating at Teji’s Indian Restaurant in Round Rock, Texas may not be a wise choice at the moment. The restaurant received a red unsatisfactory tag after failing their initial health inspection due to critical violations, including a lack of refrigeration and a significant roach infestation. Although the establishment passed the follow-up inspection, they only scored a 70, which indicates they are still not in full compliance with health regulations. It may be best to wait until they receive a higher score on their next inspection before considering dining there.
